After a long, snowy winter, spring is finally here! You’re undoubtedly getting out more, enjoying the warmer weather and investigating all the pleasures of living in Chestertown, one of which is surely the Friends of the Kent County Public Library’s semi-annual used book sale.

Yes, again this spring the Friends of the Library invite you to take advantage of the wonderful bargains you’ll find at their sale. Come browse through hundreds of books, fiction and non-fiction, everything from classics to popular romances to children’s books. Explore the selections of DVDs, games, music, and puzzles. The prices are so reasonable, most ranging from 25¢ to $2.00, you’ll want to stock up. Wondering how to entertain the kids during summer vacation? We’ve got some possibilities. Considering what to read on those lazy Saturday afternoons? You’ll find plenty of options to choose from at the sale!

So come join your friends and neighbors at the Friends of the KCPL sale. Our hours are

• Thursday, May 1, 5:30 to 7:30
Thursday kicks off the sale with the exclusive Preview Night. Members simply bring the invitation they received in the mail, and non-members may join at the door for the bargain price of $10 per person. Preview Night attendees will be among the first to take advantage of a large, diverse selection of sale items. Beverages and light snacks will be served.

• Friday, May 2, 10:00 to 8:00

We’re open late in honor of First Friday. Stroll up High Street and drop by.

• Saturday, May 3, 10:00 to 3:00

• Sunday, May 4, 10:00 to 3:00

Sunday is “box day”! Fill a box to the brim with your finds and pay a mere five dollars.

• Monday, May 5, 10:00 to 6:00

On Monday, the last day of the sale, we aim to sell as many books as possible. You’ll find those final price reductions too tempting to resist.

Now that the days are growing shorter and the temperatures chillier, you might feel like staying in to curl up with a good book, watch that must-see DVD, or enjoy a break with an entertaining game or puzzle.

Good timing, because again this fall the Friends of the Kent County Library are holding their Used Book Sale. Drop by and browse through hundreds of books, fiction and non-fiction, everything from classics to popular thrillers to children’s books. Check out the selections of DVDs, games, music, and puzzles. With prices ranging from only 50 cents to 2 dollars, you’re sure to find a few irresistible bargains. Some special collectible items might cost a little more, but the discerning buyer will be pleased with the great deals.

Here are the hours of the sale:

• Thursday, October 31, 5:30 to 7:30
Thursday is the exclusive Preview Night. Members simply bring the invitation they received in the mail, and non-members may join at the door for the bargain price of $10 per person. Friday offers extended hours in honor of November’s First Friday. Shop early and late.

Friends of the Library Celebrate 40 Years of Used Book Sales

The Friends of the Kent County Public Library are excited to host a very large used book sale as part of its official 40th anniversary celebrations. Thousands of book titles are available. DVDs, puzzles, journals and books on CD are also for sale.

Thursday, May 2, 5:30-7:30
This is the exclusive Preview Night for members. Current members bring the invitation they received in the mail, and individual non-members may join on the spot for $10.

The sale is open to the public on the following dates:

First Friday, May 3, 10-8

Saturday, May 4, 10-3

Sunday, May 5, 10-3
Sunday is the least expensive day of the sale. Shoppers bring their own boxes and pay $5 per box.

Monday, May 6, 10–6
Monday is “sell as many books as we can” day, featuring special price reductions.

Since 1973, the friends have been supporting the Kent County library system by subsidizing programs and materials beyond what the county budget allocates. Proceeds from the Friends’ used book sale further this mission.

Attendees are encouraged to help the Friends go green by bringing their own bags. Only cash and checks will be accepted. The sale will take place at the Kent County Library, 408 High Street, Chestertown, MD 21620.

Save the date: spring 2013 book sale announcement

Book worms take note: The Friends’ spring 2013 used book sale will take place Thursday, May 2 through Monday, May 6, 2013. Hours for the sale will be announced as the dates draw nearer. Donations of used books are being collected, so it’s time to start setting aside books you’d like to contribute.

The sale will take place at the Chestertown branch of the Kent County Public Library.

Fall 2012 Used Book Sale

Tablets and eReaders are handy, but there is nothing like the experience of holding an actual book. For book worms looking to enjoy a traditional read, used book sales are a perfect way to stock up on affordable texts.

The Kent County Public Library has a very active and dedicated Friends of the Library group that hosts a popular used book sale every fall. Thousands of titles, including fiction, nonfiction, collectibles and antique books, are available. DVDs, puzzles, journals and books on CD are also for sale. Parents and educators will want to browse the large, reasonably priced selection of children’s books.

The sale hours are as follows:

Thursday, Oct. 4, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
This is the exclusive preview night for members only. Current members bring the invitation they received in the mail, and non-members may join at the door for of $10.

Spring is in the air, which means that it’s time for the Friends of the Kent County Library’s Used Book Sale. In the market for a how-to garden guide, a top-selling mystery or an impressive coffee table book? Want to learn more about economics or purchase some must-see DVDs? Then visit the Friends’ Sale.

Gently used items for a fraction of their retail prices will be available: paperback romances and hard cover classics, pristine journals, fun games and puzzles, and affordable children’s books will make for a book browser’s paradise. Most books range in price from 50 cents to $2. New and like-new items will be individually priced and cost a bit more, but they will still be a bargain. The better books section will offer extraordinary items for the connoisseur or rare book collector. This opportunity to shop a Friends’ used books sale only happens twice a year.

Fall Used Book Sale Dates Announced

Fall Book Sale Beginning Thursday, November 3, 2011

In the market for a romance, literary classic or travel guide? Want to learn more about politics or own a collection of lip-smacking recipes? Then buy a book.

The Friends of the Kent County Library’s Used Book Sale offers items for a fraction of retail prices. Savvy shoppers can find used paperbooks, DVDs, games, puzzles, pristine diaries, amazingly affordable children’s books and more. This rare opportunity to shop a Friends’ used books sale only happens once or twice a year.

Most books range in price from 25 cents to $2. The better books section offers upscale items in good condition for holiday gift giving, as well as extraordinary items for the connoisseur or rare book collector.

The exclusive Members Preview Night happens Thursday, November 3 from 5:30 to 7:30. Members simply bring the invitation they received in the mail, and non-members may join at the door for the bargain price of $10 per person. Preview Night attendees partake in a happy hour of cocktails and nibbles. They also take advantage of a large, diverse selection of books that will later be picked over by other shoppers.

In honor of the First Friday in November, Friday offers extended hours for the first time. Shoppers may browse and enjoy refreshments from 5-8.

Sunday is the least expensive day of the sale: fit as many books in a box as you can and pay a mere five bucks for it. Tuesday is “let’s move as many books as we can” day, featuring special price reductions.

The public used book sale hours are as follows:

  • Friday Nov. 4, 10-8
  • Saturday Nov. 5, 10-3
  • Sunday Nov. 6 10-3
  • Monday Nov. 7, 2011, 10-5
  • Tuesday Nov. 8, 2011, 10-5

Proceeds from the sale go directly to the library, subsidizing new books, needed upgrades, and programs that promote reading and build community. Shoppers help to sustain a society of readers in an era of declining literacy.
